Little update on Disney Re-Opening Status!

Good Morning, Good Evening, and Good Night! (Well whenever it is you are reading this!)
This being my last "mandated" post I wanted to do one final Disney reopening update. I do hope to continue this blog later once I am back starting the process for working at Disney, but that won't be for a few months.

From what I understand Disney World in Florida will have a better chance of opening up before Disneyland in California does, Gov. of California has placed Disneyland opening at a Stage 4 level, meaning that the park would not be allowed to open until a Coronavirus treatment was in place and was working a majority of the time. Whereas DisneyWorld yesterday basically was told that they can reopen whenever they want as long as a few arrangements were in order...

I still have my fingers crossed that Disney will be open by July because that's when my family has a trip planned!
That's all the updates I have for now! I am very excited for College Program applications to come out in August(ish) so that I can start the application process again! In the meantime, I'll be looking for jobs preferably in the Peoria area so that I can be closer to all my friends who still have 1 more year before they graduate.

Retail Therapy the Disney edition

This week's blog post is just going to be different (Mainly Disney) Redbubble and Etsy shops that I wish I could buy things from but my unemployment money hasn't kicked in yet so no spending is able to occur at the moment. *Names in the parenthesis are the names of the shops*

These are just a few of my recent favorites! I'm sure sometime in the future I will be making an update about more of my favorites, but due to not having money to spend recently I have been trying to stay away from online stores 🤣🤣🤣

My opinion on what would need to happen in order for the Disney Parks to reopen.

Disneyland in California and Walt Disney World have been closed since closing for the day on March 15, 2020. And it was recently announced that about 40,000 workers would be furloughed towards the end of April... so clearly Disney doesn't think it will be open soon... but is it still possible for Disney to reopen over the summer, or even in the year 2020?

Firstly, I believe that the parks will reopen before a vaccine is in circulation. Disney currently is losing more money than they are bringing in because they have all of the parks closed, all the resorts closed, and most if not all of the physical stores closed. New College Program participants for the fall program at least at this point will still be going down starting in August, yes this could change, but I do hope that it still is possible for them to go to Disney.

Disney put out this message, "We’re studying very carefully what China has been trying to do in terms of their return to normalcy. And one of the things that’s obvious is they’ve conscripted a large segment of their population to monitor others in terms of their health. You can’t get on a bus or a subway or a train or enter a high-rise building there—and I’m sure this will be the case when their schools reopen—without having your temperature taken."
One of the other big things that Disney World is talking about rolling out for the reopening is only letting a certain number of people in, and maybe that means only allowing Florida people in, or it might even mean only letting Annual Pass Holders from Florida into the park.

One of the latest updates I saw was that Disney is still doing registrations for their upcoming marathons, and especially pushing for their virtual runs. I should be going down to Disney in Mid July (fingers crossed they are really open by that time) and again possibly toward the end of August... but that trip isn't confirmed.

Or course it's hard to say right at this time what will happen for sure, I know that the California Governor might not even be allowing Disneyland to reopen until a vaccine is out!
I hope that everyone is staying safe, staying inside, and staying healthy!

I no longer work for Disney... rambling thoughts because I really can't put what I'm feeling into words properly.

I feel fortunate to have had the opportunity to be accepted into such a competitive program, and I know that this was the best move, but that doesn't negate the fact that it still hurts. I would like to thank everyone who has reached out to me to make sure I'm doing alright, and thank you to those who didn't try to immediately cheer me up when you heard that I'm not doing alright. This is something that I am still processing and this heartbreak is something that won't go away so quickly. Huge shout out to those who have reached out to me through call, text, or DM.

And if anyone would like to help, there is a petition going around to have the Fall Advantage people join the Fall program (it would be pushing back our arrival a few months, but it would still mean that we could go)  http://chng.it/b85nmCFhMR and even just passing around the link if you could, would do a lot of possible help.

Even if I do not go to Disney as soon as I hoped I'll still be reapplying as many times as I can, plus in the meantime, it means more time with friends, I'll be able to attend a wedding that I wouldn't be able to attend if I was at Disney and more time to hone other skills that I could use down at Disney.

The hardest part of yesterday was just seeing all the Fall program people trying to support the FA people, but seeing a lot of them trying to compare their feelings of pain to our pain and some even saying that their pain was an equal/ even more pain than what we were feeling. That was the worst part, making us feel bad by saying "Awww now you guys cant come to my birthday" "I'm going to find a way to fly you all out so that you can spend my birthday with me still" That's the stuff that hurt the most. And even when confronted about it there was no real apology just a "So I guess my kind words hurt a lot of you guys, thank you to those who were mature and DMed me where I was going wrong you da real MVPs"

I'm still getting updates from my Disney friends, and the recruiters so until next week all updates will probably just be on twitter, so if you are interested you can check them out there.

A short list of facts that seem too good to be true

Happy April everyone! Despite everything going on in the world right now, it does seem that Disney still plans on having me down for my same move-in day which is May 18th. A few little updates about the park, as of last I checked (which was a few days ago) Disney World does have Park hours starting on April 19th, I have no idea how limited of an open it will be, but I suspect it will probably be Florida residents only and everyone will probably have to have their temperatures taken before being able to enter.

Despite my family being less than optimistic about me still going to Disney, I am holding on to all hope I have that I will be still going to work for them... because I have no plan B at this point XD.

10 Facts about anything Disney that MAY or MAY NOT be true (Because it's April Fools day of course!)

  1.  The demon in the Fantasia piece "Night on Bald Mountain" his name is Chernabog and he comes from Slavic mythology with his name meaning "Black God" or "God of Evil".
  2.  Saludos Amigos was the FIRST Disney movie based on an original idea from Disney.
  3. In, well under, Disneyworld Magic Kingdom, there is actually a floor below the Utilidors that are specifically used to house all the Disney World park cats that keep all of the rodents out of the parks!
  4. Ideas for what would become the movie Frozen started back in 1930!
  5. Have you heard of Donald's sister Della Duck? Did you know that her full name is actually Dumbella Duck?
  6.  Despite Donald Duck's birthday being June 9, 1934- in comics and storybooks, his birthday is sometimes celebrated on Friday the 13th.
  7.  Mickey, Minnie, and Donald are the only characters to have official birthdays!
  8. In the early days, Goofy used to be date Clarabelle before she and Horace were eventually set to date.
  9. Cinderella was originally not going to have a speaking roll in the movies. Due to the fact that at that time movies without speaking was much more popular than movies that had speaking characters.
  10.  All of the Pixar animated movies have A113 as an easter egg and tribute to the room number of the classroom at the California Institute of the Arts where many of the Pixar animators got their start.
Are you able to figure out which of these are the fake facts! Let me know down in the comments which ones you believe aren't true!

Walt Disney Imagineering x Kahn Academy!

Welcome back! This is a very impulse post, I feel like I'm dying here in isolation... but that means that I have been spending more time looking at Disney things!

Heres what I came across earlier!

Walt Disney Imagineering Partners With Khan Academy To Bring You ‘Imagineering in a Box’

I found this title on one of my favorite Disney blogs and thought it was the perfect thing to write about!  (The Pixi Dust Life)

‘Imagineering in a Box’ is a free online program that brings together the diverse talents of Disney Imagineers around the world for a one-of-a-kind learning experience and is part of Disney’s commitment to helping today’s youth create the future they imagine.

This new series offers 32 videos in which Imagineers share how they use a wide range of skills – from story development and conceptual design to math, physics, and engineering – to create immersive experiences. This program not only aims to teach the viewers about what goes on behind the scenes but also hopes to inspire creativity and design.

Modules range from a tutorial on engineering software to an interactive exercise where learners are encouraged to gather items around them and create something new. The program’s hands-on components will allow students to relate new concepts to real-world examples to bring treasured Disney stories to life. Each activity is designed to be scalable, allowing individuals to learn on their own or in a classroom setting.

Wanting to try something new while in quarantine? Check out this program! Let me know down in the comments your thoughts on the whole thing!

So Disney is closed...

Hello everyone, I hope everyone is staying safe and staying sane while we are self quarantined.
Just getting into it... if anyone didn't know every single Disney park is closed, this has never happened ever before in Disney's history.

The international parks (Disneyland Paris, Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Shanghai Disney) have been closed since late February/Early March due to how quickly COVID-19 spread across Europe and Asia. Walt Disney World (Florida) and Disneyland Resort/ Disney's California Adventure as of March 15th is now closed until at least March 31st (so far there is no talk about the recent statement made by the CDC talking about how for the next 8 weeks events that are more than 50 people should be canceled or postponed)

What has come out of all of this:

  1. All current College Program participants are no longer working for Disney, but they will be paid for the next 2 weeks and will not have rent taken out of their paycheck, they are required to move out of the provided housing by March 18th (those who live in non- Disney housing are able to stay but they do not currently have a job at the moment (unless they apply for a Full or Part-time position)
    1. what this means for Disney: when the parks reopen they will be missing a couple tens of thousands of cast members (each park (Disneyland hires less because they have less housing for those who live out of state) has about 10-20 thousand College Program hires each hiring season)
    2. the Cast Members that are being sent home will have the option to reapply right away for the fall program (it would be August/September- January)
  2. Each park will be sending remaining food and preserves to shelters, food pantries, and other establishments that would benefit
  3. Lots of crying from me and my CP friends, those that I've talked to all feel terrible for those who were forced to leave, This is something I have wanted to do for at least half of my life if not a little more, having to have that taken away from others who feel the same as me leaves my heartbroken.

There may not be many more updates until we find out if Disney will be extending closures but if I do hear anything they will be tweeted out as soon as I get all the details I possibly can.

What Disney means to me

Welcome back, Friends! Today I wanted to talk to you all today not as "Walt's Frozen Head" but as Sarah Emmerick.  It's been a very introspective past few weeks for me, having to start realizing that I need to plan for my move down to Disney, learning that my Roomie would be coming with me down to Disney, and having to start wrestling with the fact that my days with my friends from college and home are soon going to have to be memories that I hold on to since I'll be more than 1,000 miles away from everyone I love and care about.

Pretty much everyone knew that this was going to happen though, and I knew that working for Disney was something I really wanted to do after I graduated. From the first time I visited Disney when I was about 4 I knew I wanted to work for Disney, and I wanted to be a Princess, specifically, I wanted to be Belle. Unfortunately by the time I hit middle school I was too tall to be any Princess, and pretty much any costumed performer at Disney. Sure, I was crushed, but a few years later I learned that Disney hired people and their job was to give tours and be able to take park guests off stage and they are also able to get their guests on certain rides through an even quicker than the fast pass way. This is called VIP Tours and that is the role that I want.

So why am I going to be working Quick Service Food and Beverage at Disney when what I really want to be doing is giving tours? Well, that's because in order to gain the entry-level VIP Tour position I have to have either worked for the Disney company for 6 months or have completed the Disney College Program. So my plan is to continue to learn and get caught up on all things Disney and then hopefully apply to be a VIP Tour Guide at the end of my program.

BUT SARAH WHAT DOES DISNEY MEAN TO YOU!?
Anyone who knows me... and I'm not speaking like KNOWS me knows me, well they know I like Disney... it's not something that's generally hard to tell, I always have something, Disney, on me... and I mean ALWAYS. And it's not like I need to always have something Disney on me, it just always ends up like that.
I know for many going to a Disney park is a once in a lifetime trip, and I feel very grateful to have been able to take all the Disney trips that I have. Though I doubt I could ever put to words how I truly feel about Disney, here are some photos that I keep as memories of all the good times I had with Disney.

Last Disney cruise that my family and I took last year, we ended up going to a lot of cool places in the Caribbean, I ended up getting seasick at the end of the week and almost landed myself in quarantine which wasn't fun, but you better believe I never missed a round of trivia!

This next photo was taken during my first or second trip to Disney #TBT to the EPCOT wand! This was an interesting trip actually because my whole family: Dad, mom's parents, and my dad's parents (minus my mom because she was pregnant with my sisters) all went down to the parks and ended up having to rush to rent a large van to drive home because of 9/11.

This photo was taken during my senior year of high school! My family and I did something that was called "An Adventure by Disney" this is the trip that I learned about being a VIP Tour Guide and we got to see soooooo many behind the scenes things at Disneyland Resort and some of the additional and affiliate Disney studios!

I'm not really sure if this was a trip to Disney in 5th grade or while I was in middle school, but I was still really young here, something that I always loved about Disney is that while you are not doing rides, shopping, or eating you have the option to take part in many different activities!

This was a trip I took a few summers ago, and my friend Lexy and I got to spend multiple days together at the parks. Lexy and I only see each other for about 4-6 days every year... I am very excited that I'll get to see her at least twice while I'm working down at Disney, we talk every day but it's just not the same compared to when we are together. One of the things that she and I were always able to bond over was our love for Disney.

This photo was taken during the same time as the other Adventures by Disney one, this was taken when we visited the Disney Archives and Walt Disney Studios. This is a replica of the statue that is in the parks, a fun fact the story behind it is Walt is pointing to another statue across the way of Roy Disney and Minnie, and Walt is supposed to be talking to Mickey saying, "Lead the way for him while I'm gone". This statue is also called "The Partners"

I've grown up loving Disney, I was THAT kid who wasn't allowed to watch Spongebob... or well pretty much any other Cartoon Network shows growing up, all I had was Disney, and I was, and still am ok with that.

Young Sarah only wore Princess outfits ... also those bangsssssssssss

My favorite memory about dressing up as a Disney princess was when we would fly to Orlando to go to Disney I always got a little bit of that Disney magic, Cast members calling me Princess, asking for my autograph, like... I liked the attention back then.

Disney means so much to me that I'm not quite sure I could ever actually put correct words to it, the fact that I will be working in what is known as the "Happiest Place on Earth".
If anyone has any questions for me please leave them in a comment below and I will get back to you as soon as I can!
But for now, this is Sarah Emmerick signing off!

My favorite little known facts about different Disney rides!

Hello there friend! Thank you for coming back and reading this next post! This past week I took to Instagram and Snapchat to ask my friends and followers to ask them about what their favorite rides from any of the Disney theme parks were!
In this post the rides that I will be talking about come from the Animal Kingdom, Hollywood Studios, and Magic Kingdom! Sadly no one wanted to hear about EPCOT, dont worry I will have an EPCOT post another week!

I will be giving 3-5 facts per ride and if you are interested in hearing any more feel free to reach out to me on Twitter @legzandkindeyez or on Instagram @speakingangel.

Animal Kingdom:

Expedition Everest:

  • There is a basketball hoop inside of the ride that castmembers have access to use while on breaks.
  • Disco Yeti is the nickname given to the yeti animatronic that is in the ride, it was given this nickname because of the strobe lights that were added when the animatronic was shut off due to the fact that it was damaging the structure of the attraction every time it performed its action
  • Expedition Everest became the first Disney coaster to propel riders both backward and forwards.
  • There's a prop bird (known as Bird on a stick) that occasionally pops up when the train comes to a stop (this is the part where the tracks are lifted up off the track right before the train is propelled backward)
  • It's really cool how they do the track switch before being propelled backward and then again forwards after the yeti moves the track again, here's a video that shows what I am referring to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWna_sOebSo&t=190s
Dinosaur:
  • The vehicles' name "CTX Time Rover" is a nod to Countdown to Extinction, the original ride!
  • Where the Iguanodon statue now stands at the front of the attraction used to be the Styracosaurus.
  • McDonald's was once the sponsor for Dinoland U.S.A.; if you look around while you're in line for Dinosaur, you'll spot red, yellow and white pipes labeled with chemical formulas. Wonder what those formulas make? Ketchup, mustard, and mayonnaise. (photo on right)

Hollywood Studios: (What it looks like now that the hats gone) (also known as MGM Studios)
(The hat is so iconic though so here is a picture of it anyway :D)

Tower of Terror:
(ok ok ok so I know that I said I would only do 3-5 but I think this ride is so cool, so this one might get a few more)
  • Tower of Terror can be seen from EPCOT and so it was designed to blend in with the buildings that are in the Morocco section of the World Showcase.
  • Tower of Terror uses an autonomous car system and one of the reasons that the ride breaks down a lot is because something falls out of the cart and onto the floor blocking one of the sensors that are required to help with the movement of the ride vehicle and so that vehicle won't move until the obstruction is cleared.
  • All the spider webs that are in the lobby are created by hot glue strings they just are allowed to collect dust overtime
  • The footage in the pre-show video for the Tower of Terror, featuring Twilight Zone host Rod Serling, was taken from the episode It's a Good Life. The opening lines from the TV show are spoken by Serling himself. However, an impersonator named Mark Silverman narrates the remainder of the video. He was handpicked by Disney's Imagineers and Serling's widow, Carol. The Imagineers spent many hours lining up the lip sync with the footage of Serling and degrading the digitally recorded dialogue to match the 1960s analog sound quality of the original show.
    • (Storytime! When my family and I took part in the Hollywood Adventures by Disney tour one of our cast member tour guides was also apart of the Guest Relations team and one day Mark Silverman called impersonating Rod Sterling and decided to "prank call" the cast members when asking for tickets to the park for later that week, the tour guide described how he actually hung up the phone in shock and fear after hearing what he thought could only be Sterling's voice.)
  • The attraction utilizes Pepper's Ghost illusion, a favorite Disney illusion most notably used in the Haunted Mansion attraction to make the ghosts in the ballroom seemingly come to life. This illusion is used for the projection of the family in the hallway scene, and then also the projection of the floating window in the same scene.
  • The Tower of Terror ride is 199 feet if it had been any taller the FAA (Federal Aviation Authority) would have required to have a flashing red light on top of it.
Rockin' Roller Coaster:
  • Each limo plays a different track, so depending on which limo you get will dictate the song(s) that you hear while you ride.
    • “Young Lust”/”F.I.N.E.”/”Love in an Elevator” medley
    • “Nine Lives”, “Sweet Emotion”
    • “Back in the Saddle”/”Dude Looks Like a Lady” medley
    • “Love in an Elevator”/”Walk This Way” medley.
  • There are over 900 speakers for this ride.
    • For starters, each guest is surrounded by 5 speakers, which are 4 around the head and 1 subwoofer under the seat.  (5 limos in circulation, and about 24 seats per limo.) When you multiply that across all of the guests in each limo and then by the number of limos in circulation, plus all the speakers in the actual track house it's easy to see how the number could be over 900!
  • Rockin Roller Coaster was an opening day attraction when MGM studios opened on May 1, 1989.
Magic Kingdom: (Since there are many attractions to be talked about here I will only be doing about 1-2 facts)
  • Peoplemover:
    • Today we know the attraction as the Tomorrowland Transit Authority PeopleMover, and most often just called the PeopleMover for short. When the attraction first opened, it was known was the WEDWay PeopleMover. The WED stood for Walter Elias Disney. It changed to Tomorrowland Transit Authority in 1994 and kept that name until 2010.
  • Splash Mountain: Many of the animatronics used throughout the ride are actually repurposed from the attraction America Sings.
  • Peter Pan's Flight: This attraction has been around since the very beginning. The attraction was one of the original attractions that guests first rode on when Disneyland opened. It has been a beloved attraction ever since, which is why it was added to the Magic Kingdom. It actually now lives in 4 different Disney theme parks all around the world and maintains popularity at all of them!
    • Peter Pan wasn't in the ride originally, actually most of the main character's weren't the ride was supposed to show the POV from Peter and the Darling children.
  • Haunted Mansion: The biggest illusion in the attraction is the Pepper's Ghost illusion, Heres a video that explains it really well (https://youtu.be/fAryLSRcub0?t=54)
    • The Haunted Mansion is the only ride to be at nearly every park across the world (minus Shanghi Disneyland) ! Mystic Manor (Hong Kong Disneyland) is based on Chinese traditional and cultural stories that reflect death and the afterlife, this was seen as a better option compared to what the ride is like in Disney World and Disneyland in California.
Was your favorite ride not listed? Let me know and I would love to come back another week to talk some more about intersting facts about the rides!
If anyone has any questions please feel free to reach out to me!
Thanks for reading! And I hope you have a magical rest of your day!
